No more TNPCEE
Well, well.
+2 students in TN need not worry about TNPCEE anymore. According to this (and this) article, admissions would be only on the basis of +2 results and of course, reservations (you thought that would be removed?).
Here is how I see it:
1. If you are able to memorize the entire text book, and you are from a "reasonable" caste, you get into a nice, warm and cozy college.
2. If you belong to the heaven-forbid, won't-memorize-shall-understand types, you are screwed. Make that double screwed if you belong to OC.
In general, students score humungously in +2, 50/50 in biological and Physical sciences, but struggle only in in Mathematics entrance tests - since some of the questions are not examples in the textbook. Even so, I was under the impression that TNPCEE actually separates the cream from the foam. Sadly, this is not to be from now on.
I am sure this was brought about since there are more engineering seats than the applicants. Extreme pressure by the self-financing colleges on the government, the usual drill.
So, mug away, students. Great going!.

I saw this and also commented on Keerthi's blog (avyukta.blogspot.com). Maybe the two of you can hook up for a discussion.

Deepak,
diffferent way of thinking on a issue.
replied your comment on my blog.
My questions to you.
Im an average Doer at school and say I was 35 in a class of 70. Shylu was in a top-ten group.
We had our school +2 marks, and the pattern undisturbed.
We had our Entrance marks and Yet, the pattern remained Undisturbed.
Probably a minor difference.
I feel, with BE seats become so very easy these days, an Entrance Exam like this, is just a way to generate revenue.
Please understand - It could never be a filtering criteria, if all the people who write Entrance can get a BE seat. We have surplus seats.
It is just a deciding factor about the College. People want the best colleges.
What happened there, is another tragedy.
If you look at the best college to study, It has become a Deemed University.
You have to apply there again and write a Entrance Exam again. New application forms.
Loosing the meaning of Single Window System.. thats not fair.
I agree few people would struggle. Yet, This would eveolve into a better system.
Chaos initially, Peace shall appear eventually.
There was a point from Ramadoss. It was making me think.
In a State, why should there be Low class education, Middle Class Education and High Class Education.
Why should there be separate schools for State Board, Matriculation and CBSE ?

I have the same feelings as you do.
Not sure why the Govt.took such a decision? I am surprised as the marks people get these days.
100% in everything? Nonsense.

I pity the CBSE students who are vying for TN engg. seats. As such they were getting thrashed left and right due to strict correction policy, now they have to put up with this. But hey, when has TN sided up with any kind of central origanization?
