My high regards on him as a batsman took a heavy beating after the Sydney test. What this test has managed to achieve is to expose the world of the Aussie antics. Nobody, including the umpires who respect the Aussie words highly, should listen to what they say any more. Look at all the names involved: Ponting, Gilchrist, Clarke, Symonds, Hogg and Hussey - Pretty much the Who's who of the team..
By the end of the Perth test I shall air my views on the same:-)) and they are not pretty:-)) But as of now all I can say is not a single word that comes out his mouth should be believed:-))
GO Rogers!!!! When given three words to describe himself Rogers uses "cheeky, irritating and red" and his personal motto is "better red than dead". A steak-and-chips man, Rogers also keeps his batting simple and has refined a method that has been successful on the speed of Perth, the seam of England and the low-bouncing pitches of Pakistan.
The big difference is Bush is a loser and Ponting a Winner. So even though they may appear similar or may speak similar, Ponting walks his talk. Indians dont like Ponting because he demolished the so called final frontier, and is on his way to break all records set by one Mr. Tendulkar only that in this case the team is also winning.
I feel Pointing is very head-strong and independent on strategy unlike Bush who blindly follows his advisers. Cricket now is like an epic with the Australians ruling and everyone else waiting for a team to beat them!
A comment on a comment here. I'm guessing both the anons are the same (I also have a sneaky feeling on who it is but I digress) Ponting did not demolish the final frontier- it was stand in captain Gilchrist- In the last match where Ponting did ocme back, not only did he fail miserably with the bat, but Australia ended up the losing side. But I don't disagree with your general line of thought.
Born in Madras, India. Tel-Bram, but for all practical purposes (outside home) a tam. BE - CS in SatBam, Madras. Caught the GRE bug, came to the US (AZ) do MS in order to get on the gravy train. Former is done, latter was oh-so-subtly realized that it was improbable. Lived in Florida for a while and moved to the Pacific NW, decided rain is bad for health and moved to the bean-town in search of ve-ri-tas. So, there.
