Looks like this hurricane season would be a record breaking one. This is the first time in the recorded history that 4 named storms have materialized so soon (it's barely july). Also this is the first time a category-3 hurricane (> 114 mph) hit the US since 1936 so early in the season. And Dennis (nalla peru vekkaraanga) seems to be coming right to the Gulf coast.
PS: Strike Category 3, make it Category 4 (updated on July 8th).

Whats up with Florida and Hurricane
Last year it was worst.
By Ganesh, at July 07, 2005 6:06 PM
Vatsan: Yes, its true. Whenever a hurricane threatens to strike, the natural tendency of people is to fill their car tanks - because of all the photos of the gas stations getting blown away.. But I dont know the idea behind filling the tank - the width of florida is not much.. and you really cannot escape.

Keerthi: :( sigh!.. water vapor from africa starts it and global warming takes care of the rest.
Narayanan: Hope it would go away more to the west of florida.. I know, this would mean that some other state would get hammered. but what to do!? It HAS to come north at some point.
Ganesh: The shape of florida is like a sore thumb in the atlantic.. thala ezhuthu.. prize to pay for living in "paradise"

Hope this is becoming a regular phenomena, right...

IS it TDAT coming live..take care
but interestingly u said people fill car tanks...hey but aint cars more at risk of being blown away ..than the gas stations..
By anubhav, at July 08, 2005 1:42 AM
Ram: I sure hope this is not becoming a regular. Last year the hurricanes accounted for abount 40 billion dollars in damage.
Anubhav: Sometimes it becomes necessary to evacuate low lying areas and flood zones. So that is the reason for filling up the car. But this evacuation has to be done before the hurricane hits the area. Some people try to leave after the hurricane starts and they simply fly off to a nearby tree..

Yeah Deepak.. last year, Gainesville was spared from all the four major hurricanes.. The predictions for this year are truly scary.. let us see how many times we need to run to Georgia to escape the forthcoming ones..
Glad that your area was safe during Dennis..

GP: sigh!.. how easy it is for you to reach georgia.. i can only sit here..
